5 Cases Where Diet Supplements May Harm

Dietary supplements were being used by 17.7 percent of American adults in 2007. While scientists have found many benefits of dietary supplements e.g. folic acid prevents some birth defects, calcium and vitamin D can prevent and treat bone loss, etc, they have also found some harmful effects of different dietary and herbal supplements.
The following are their 5 harmful effects
1. Increased Risk Of Heart Attack - Calcium supplements could up the chances of a heart attack in healthy postmenopausal women, found a study. Calcium is often prescribed to women after menopause to keep bones healthy, and some doctors even believe that it prevents arteries from blockage, but new research highlights a risk. (British Medical Journal (BMJ), Jan 2008.)
2. Increased Risk of Prostrate Cancer - The risk of prostate cancer for men who consume a daily folic acid supplement of 1 mg may be double, when compared to men who don’t. Folic acid or vitamin B9 is naturally found in many vegetables, beans, fruits and whole grains. The study was conducted by the University of Southern California scientists. (Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Mar 2009.)
3. Increased Risk of Lung Cancer – When beta carotene and other carotenoid-containing dietary supplements are consumed over a long period of time they may increase the risk of getting lung cancer. And the links are stronger when the consumers happen to be smokers. (American Journal of Epidemiology AJE, Feb 2009.)
4. Reduced Effect of Anti-Cancer Drugs - If you are on supplements and if it results in high amounts of vitamin C in your cells. Then it may reduce the effect of anti-cancer drugs you consume because the vitamin levels will cause the cancer cells to live longer (Cancer Research, Oct 2008).
5. Increased Risk For Diabetes - A large scale study concluded that people who consumed 200 microgram selenium supplement daily, for about eight years, their chances of getting developing type 2 diabetes were higher than those who took a placebo. (Annals of Internal Medicine, Aug 2007)
While useful in many cases, intake of supplements can sometimes be damaging.
What Does a Weight Loss Supplement Need to be Effective?

Let ’s be frank here… diet supplements are available by the hundreds on the web, what makes a diet product better than another? The answer: Fighting Fat on the 3 Critical Fronts.
What causes those extra pounds to find their way onto your belly, butt and sides?
Simply put - fats, sugars and starches, the 3 critical components.
Our bodies are wonderful machines - but they do have a ”biological deficiency.” Whenever we eat these fats, sugars and starches, anything over our immediate needs signals our bodies to store the rest as fat.
You see, we’re still programmed with our primitive men genes - when food was scarce and building fat reserves was the only way for surviving the winter times.
Today, food isn’t scarce…in fact, it’s just the opposite . But our bodies are still reacting with a feast or famine response. What was good for our ice-age relatives is now a huge problem for most of us.
So simply put, we gain weight because our fat stores are simply overwhelmed, packing up far too many fat molecules for what is immediately needed.
The result is an accumulation of fat all over the body.
So what should you be looking for if you need to lose weight?
What you should be looking for is a multi-fonctionnal diet pill, a product capable of burning body fat by vastly increasing fat oxidation, reducing high blood sugar level, minimizing cravings by controlling serotonin levels that regulate appetite and also by burning excess carbs by deactivating a-amylase a digestive enzyme, that turns starches into glucose and then into fat cells. All this process will help shrink fat cells by ” turning off ” the fat storing mechanism stopping fat cells from growing.
Now, I can just about hear what you’re thinking. Does this type of weight loss product exist and why haven’t i heard of it before? Yes it really exist, but it’s rather unusual a diet product combines all of the active nutrients to achieve safe, effective and fast results.
Choose a Product That Has Clinically Proven Ingredients
Now you will find mountains of cheaper so-called slim quick pills on the market- both in stores and on the web. But like everything else in life, you get what you pay for. Most (if not all) of these remedies are worthless when it comes to helping you lose weight.
Sure they may seem to work at first - but that’s mainly due to the placebo effect. You want something to work so much, you fool your body into believing it too. But the placebo effect soon wears off, and you’re stuck with bottles of useless pills that will soon be finding their way into the garbage.
So when the time comes where you need to choose a diet supplement make no compromise on quality. Buy only clinically tested and safe product, preferably manufactured by laboratories bearing a GMP .”Good manufacturing pratices’‘ logo. These Labs have usually been FDA certified facilities. Leg Fat Questions Answered - How To Lose Weight From Your Legs

I’m going to answer 2 common leg fat questions that I get all the time. In this article, I’m going to show you how to lose weight from your legs. The good news is that it’s easier than you think. The bad news is, you still need to do what I’m going to suggest (it’s really not that much, you’ll see). Read this now if you’re desperate to lose fat from your legs.
Leg Fat Questions Answered
Q: How do I lose fat from my inner thighs?
A: The best way to do this is by walking up and down stairs for 15 minutes everyday. So my question to you is, do you have stairs in your home or the building you live at? If so, you can’t top this exercise. It’s so easy too. Nothing to think about. Just do it. The results come. It’s almost 100% assured. Walk up 1-4 flights of stairs, and then walk back down. I suggest you do this AT LEAST 5 days a week. Look, that’s barely an hour of your time. With 168 hours in a week, you really don’t have an excuse not to do these. The only excuse I’ll accept is that you live in a 1-story ranch house.
Q: How do I reduce or eliminate the cellulite in my legs?
A: Well to be honest, this is really hard. But it’s possible to diminish cellulite 2 different ways. First, you can jump on a mini-trampoline for 15 minutes a day. This helps loosen up the lymphatic blockage in your legs which will help lessen the appearance of dimples on your legs and butt. Or, you can use a foam roller and roll your legs over it back and forth for 5 minutes a day. In essence, this helps to “squeeze out” and smooth out the fat pockets while also improving the lymphatic flow.
This is how to lose weight from your legs and make them look better. The answers to these 2 leg fat questions will help to better guide you in your efforts for thinner, leaner, sexier legs.

3 Effects of Losing Weight

Are you a woman who is struggling with your weight? If you are, you are definitely not alone. Today, many women are faced with many issues, including weight. If you are unhappy with your current weight, you may be interested in changing it, but, for many, that is often easier said than done.
When it comes to losing weight, many women are able to come up with an unlimited number of excuses as to why they can’t lose weight or excuses as to why this important issue should be pushed off to the side for now. Many women are lacking the motivation needed to lose weight. If you are one of those women, you will want to continue reading on. Below, three reasons as to why you should lose weight are outlined and these reasons may serve as the motivation that you have been looking for
Appearance
Although many women are satisfied with the way that they look, many are not. If you are currently unhappy with the way that you look and feel, you will want to consider losing weight. Weight loss, even a small one, can significantly improve the way that you see yourself, as well as the way that others see you. If you hate looking at yourself in the mirror every morning, it may be time to think about losing weight.
Health
For many women, being overweight or obese isn’t just about carrying around a few extra pounds. Obesity has been linked to a number of health complications, including high blood pressure, diabetes, as well as the early onset of death. If you do not take steps to lose weight now, especially if you are seriously overweight, your health may have other plans for you. It is important to mention that those plans may not necessarily be good ones.
Wellbeing
In addition to benefiting your health and your physical appearance, weight loss can also make you feel good about yourself. Many women notice an instant improvement in their self-confidence and self-esteem when they lose weight. This means that even if you are suffering from other issues, aside from weight related issues, weight loss may be able to assist you with overcoming those issues or at least the stress that is associated with them.
The three above mentioned reasons are just a few of the many reasons why you may want to think about losing weight, if you have weight to lose. Should you decide that losing weight is in your best interest, you may want to think about making an appointment with a healthcare professional. These types of appointments are important, as well as insightful. Your healthcare professional may be able to instruct you on safe ways that you can go about losing weight and they may also be able to help you set reasonable weight loss goals for yourself.
Although it is advised that you speak with a healthcare professional about your intent to lose weight, you don’t have to just rely on their expertise or their input. A large number of women, just like you, lose weight by joining locally operated weight loss programs, as well as online weight loss programs. What is nice about weight loss programs, both those operated locally and online, is that you often walk away with professional advice, as well as support from others just like you.
Good Eating Habits for Weight Loss Success

Filed under How to Lose Weight
Most people in our nation gain weight because of bad eating habits and a non-active lifestyle.
Obesity is one of the biggest problems faced by millions of people in America. This has resulted in a big weight loss corporate industry in the country like Weight watchers, Jenny Craig and many others. Although there are good programs, I feel people can themselves do quite a bit to reduce their weight. The two major factors in weight loss are exercise and controlled diet. I have put together several points which will be useful to individuals looking to reduce their weight.
1. Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Most fruits are low in calories and make you full sooner. Not to mention the other vitamins and fibers they also contain.
2. Read those nutrition fact labels: It is a good idea to know how many calories you are consuming. Some foods combo’s can be deceptive, for example if you are having a plate of salad topped with lot of high calorie dressing and a soda, they you have just had more calories then you might get from a combination of grilled chicken sandwich (with no cheese and dressing) plus diet soda. So be smart with what you eat. Prefer home cooked food as much as possible.
3. Eating smaller frequent meals will also help you cut down the total intake of calories compared to 3 big meals a day.
4. Give yourself a break: Being too restrictive can anyway demotivate you, so to give yourself regular breaks. But do not over-eat at the same time, be conservative and try to make up for it in other meals.
5. Drinks: Soda, juice, cream are all loaded with sugars which we usually do not account into out diet plan. Drink water instead.
6. Exercise: Do not always depend on your car for everything, walk wherever you can. Go hiking and those backpacks help to burn extra calories. Make friends who have a active lifestyle, join gym or get a treadmill in your home. Remember to increase your exercise in a progressive manner day by day instead of doing strenuous exercise from day one. Be practical on what your body can take and avoid overexertion.
7. Get motivation: Talk to people who have had success in weight loss and they will give you a lot of inspiration.
8. Get enough sleep, reduce stress and live happy.
9. Reward yourself when you reach your monthly weight loss milestones.
10. Never give up, even if you have failed a few times previously.
I am not an expert so it is advisable to consult your doctor before starting any weight loss effort and they will also tell you if you have any medical condition that may prevent you to follow these tips.
Lose Weight

My personal opinion concering eating protein and meat to keep weight off is that you are eating too many acidic foods and throwing the body into an unhealthy situation. Eating has been the hardest part of every attempt to lose weight. Every new diet sells us a new reason why we can’t lose weight and how their diet is the answer.
When we focus on exercising to lose weight and what it’s going to give us, we usually pick exercise that is calorie burning and usually very hard with little regard to what we might enjoy. So, forget exercising to lose weight. Exercise for yourself even if you don’t lose weight.
I find the first plateau to be a critical time because most people give up in frustration if they feel they are working hard to lose weight. According to the nation’s doctors, only ten percent of the millions of people who set out to lose 30 or more pounds actually manage to accomplish the feat. And among that tiny fraction of successful dieters, only five percent are able to maintain the new , lower weight for more than a few months.
The bottom line: 99 percent of those who set out to lose 30 pounds or more and keep it off ultimately fail at the task. When the best advice of recognized experts results in dismal failure of weight loss and maintenance, what is the overweight person supposed to do to defeat his weight problem?
You can “lose the weight you hate”. Relax and begin enjoying the process of losing the weight.
To paraphrase General Colin Powell (while referring to the Iraqi army): “We are going to find the cause of your weight problem - and then we are going to kill it.” Although few people realize it, losing weight has almost nothing to do with “will power”.
Their weight problem is a function of where their metabolic machinery directs the storage of sugar. You’ll actually gain weight by skipping breakfast.
Until recently, most diet formulators based their weight loss methods on reducing total calories. The reason that foods containing sugar make you gain weight is not because they contain sugar. The reason that foods containing starch make you gain weight is not because they contain starch.
You must eat lots of nutritious carbohydrates to lose weight. Don’t focus on reducing total calories; focus on the nutrient that is making you fat - FAT.
Although many people begin with the false impression that they must limit all food to lose weight, they soon learn that they can eat a lot of food (albeit low fat, fiber rich food) and still lose.
Lose Weight by Taking Diet Pills

I came across this double page ad. First of all, I generally hate the ads that try to look like articles published by the magazine. And I also wonder if anyone doesn’t notice the “Advertisement” typed in tiny font at the top… some people must not.
The girl on this page isn’t fat. In fact, it just looks like they slightly distorted the picture of a normal and thin girl so she looks a little wider, not fat, just distorted. So here we see the idea being planted into people’s heads that even normal thin people need to lose weight.
But the creepiest thing of all about this advertisement is that it doesn’t say who has paid for it!
I wish it were this easy, free diet pills, take them and lose weight.. And here I am busting my butt lifting weights and watching what I eat.
Ever imagine how to lose a few extra pounds the easier way? Here is the article dedicated to the purpose of losing weight the smart way.
Besides just looking at yourself in the mirror and being unhappy with what you see, get up and do something about it. It’s not quite as hard as you think it is. If I told you that I can think of a better way for you to not only shed some weight but also have your complexion improve, help the way your body digests the food you eat and help decrease symptoms of arthritis and diabetes, would you do it?
Not like a typical fad diet that’s everywhere you see that puts your body through stress just to lose only a couple pounds, the detoxification/detox diet promotes health. The detox diet helps your body use the nutrients that you take in effectively and with better results. Do you suffer from constipation, Irritable Bowel Syndrome or indigestion? A safe detox diet can help lower issues you could have with these not-so-rare ailments.
There’s a highly regarded 2 day safe detox diet available that will assist you not to only lose weight and fat, but to boost your energy and stamina levels, drop your cravings for unhealthy junk food and help to liven up your skin and eyes. The answer is the 2 Day Slim Down. As you’re staring at your reflection, what if, in only 2 days, you could lose up to 12 lbs. and be rejuvenated from the inside out? It’s time to make the next step and make some changes. The 2 Day Slim Down detoxification/detox diet is here to help you in achieving your weight goals.
Weight Loss - are You Fighting With yourself to Lose Weight?
February 23, 2010 by
Filed under Weight Loss Regimens and Exercises
Have you tried to lose weight in the past but failed? You may have been fighting yourself to do it. I’ll explain.
There are two main parts to our mind: the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious part of you wants to lose weight and look good this upcoming season. Meanwhile, the subconscious wants you to continue to eat all the foods that make you feel comfortable and happy. Unfortunately for you, those tend to be composed of sugar and carbohydrates which only make your waist line grow. In a scenario like this one, the person ends up yo-yo-dieting because their “Will Power” can only last so long – literally. Will Power only gives you a short burst of energy. Once it’s gone. It’s just gone. The only thing left behind is your emotional stress and frustration which can lead to a vicious cycle of weight rebounding.
That is the reason why the problem of losing weight needs to be tackled at the source of where the mental conflict is – in your subconscious. The subconscious is where all your habits and patterns lie such as not eating healthy, not liking to exercise and drinking only soda. Once you get this part of your mind in sink with your goals, change becomes easy because you’re no longer fighting with yourself.
Hypnosis Has Been Scientifically Proven To Work For Weight Loss.
Setting your mind to lose weight and motivating yourself to enjoy healthy habits is possible with Hypnosis. A significant number of studies (several of which are listed below), have demonstrated that adding hypnosis to a weight loss program significantly increases its success.
A 1996 study conducted at the University of Connecticut published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology found that, on average, people who used Hypnosis were able to lose 2.5 times more weight than a person not using Hypnosis. The authors went a step further by stating, “The correlation analysis indicated that the benefits of Hypnosis increased substantially over time.”
As someone who previously battled with keeping extra pounds off, I know that you need to have the correct frame of mind in order to be successful. You may have experienced occasions when you’ve dieted and exercised but then your will power wore off. In the end, you slipped back to your old patterns and rebounded in weight. This continuous vicious cycle affects you not just physically but emotionally because as your self-esteem spirals downwards you start to overeat; you start eating calorie laden comfort foods again and you get stuck in the same pattern.
This scenario happens to countless of Americans who fuel the diet industry with their purchases of diet pills and other fads in hope of achieving their weight loss goals. The problem, however, is that the more you rebound, the more you set yourself up for failure for the next time you try to diet.
In reality, the perfect equation for most people to lose weight is simple. It’s:
Weight Loss = The Right Mind Set + Healthy Eating + Exercise
That’s it. In life as in science, the simplest answer is often the correct answer.
Hypnosis can help you achieve the right state of mind by “cleaning up the mental clutter” that prevents you from holding a determined course to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. It gives you the ability to naturally chose to eat healthy foods, to want to exercise and to be focused on achieving your weight loss goals. For some, it’s as simple as one session, while others see benefit from a series of sessions.
In a research article titled, Hypnotherapy in weight loss treatment, a group of researchers found that in a test group of 60 participants, those that did not use Hypnosis only lost .5 lbs while the group using Hypnosis lost 17lbs. Why? Because the people who had access to Hypnosis sessions were able to achieve that weight loss combination that eludes most people today.
More proof of the ability of Hypnosis to boost a person’s weight loss was shown in January of 2004, when Dateline aired “Losing it: Dateline ultimate diet challenge.” The show compared some of the most well known methods known to losing weight including the Atkin’s diet, Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, extreme exercise with calorie restrictions, working with a diet coach and Hypnosis.
The top two weight loss techniques that worked were Hypnosis and the Atkins diet. Unfortunately for the man who used the Atkin’s diet (Rick Burns), while he lost weight, he also became sick. “Rick developed a painful case of gout, a condition he’d had before, that he suspected was a result of the diet.” His diet had to be modified.
Marc Merlis, the man who did Hypnosis along with exercising and eating healthy continued to happily lose weight.
“After three months under Hypnosis, his wife had a nickname for him. Incredibly, “droopy drawers” had lost the most so far, a staggering 40 pounds. That’s when droopy’s wife got in on the action. She went to the hypnotist to quit smoking. And guess what? Smoke free, fat free. Five months in, for the Merlis’s things couldn’t be better. And at their son’s bar mitzvah this May, lifting Marc was a piece of cake.”
As long as Marc continued his Hypnosis routine, he was able to continue his path of losing weight. One of the things that I noticed about this weight loss challenge was how much the other contestants suffered by the calorie restrictions that they had to undergo. It’s hard to focus if you feel that you are starving. Hypnosis helps program your mind to think thin – this includes wanting to exercise and wanting to eat healthy so you’re not constantly struggling about what choices you have to make. An added plus to Hypnosis is that it helps you control your stress levels. This in turn helps you to lose weight.
Even highly respected consumer advocate John Stossel of ABC’s 20/20, who is known for debunking fraudulent claims, agrees that Hypnosis is no sham. In his best-selling book, “Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidty”, he makes a bold take on Hypnosis:
“Just when my skeptic’s antennae convince me I always know bunk when I see it, I get fooled. I assumed hypnosis in medicine was one more con game… “Hypnotherapy will help you lose weight!” C’mon, if it worked, there wouldn’t be all those overweight people around. Truth: Hypnosis works — if you let it!”
Smokers can also reap the benefits of Hypnosis for weight loss. A two-fold study stated that both nonsmokers and smokers alike experienced significant weight loss as well as decline in their Body Mass Index compared to the group who did not practice Hypnosis. In fact, the group who used Hypnosis continued to show lower post treatment weights. Non-invasive and relaxing, Hypnosis makes achieving your goals easy.
Hypnosis simply allows you to have better motivation and self control as well as a positive emotional association with your diet and exercise. You don’t just lose weight, you gain control of your own life, so that you can go out there and achieve all the other things that are on your list of goals.

5 Free Tips on How to Lose Weight Now

Below are 5 free tips on how to lose weight for good-
1. Trim the fat - Ounce for ounce, fat has double the calories of
protein and carbs, so cutting back just a little pays off big. Do it
with simple swaps, such as subbing Canadian bacon for the regular stuff
in your egg sandwich, using low fat ground turkey instead of beef, and
sauteing veggies in low fat chicken stock or wine instead of butter or
oil!
2. Watch what you cook - prepare meals with low fat food products.
Remember the basic food groups and try to balance your meals. Your body
still needs a bit of everything to be healthy. So get your veggies,
lean meat, fish and fruits into your eating plan - and drink plenty of
water.
3. Eating plan - Plan and your healthy meals in advance. You will then
be more likely to avoid the spur of the moment fast food temptation. At
least you know what you are putting into your mouth. Set aside 1 hour,
say Sunday and plan your weekly meals. Saves time, saves money and
saves the hassle out of your busy schedule. So make the time now!
4. Drink GREEN TEA - Drinking green tea daily will boost your
metabolism. Studies have shown that the antioxidants in green tea can
cause the body to waste calories as heat, which increases your caloric
burning.
So cut out all kinds of sugary beverages and get into a routine of
drinking plenty of water and green tea - great calorie free drinks.
5. Be Patient - Many people give up on change too quickly, especially
when the effort starts to feel challenging. It takes at least three to
six months for behavioral change to turn into habit. So stick with
change for at least six months, focus on your goal, and be patient on
the long road towards permanent change - it will become as part of who
you are and what you do.
